Aseer – Land of Fantasy

Rijal Alma

If you want to experience the three different climates starting from typical dry extreme summer of Central Arabia in the North, lush green high plateaus, steep cliffs, cooler foggy forestry mountains reaching up to 3000 meters height in the center and ending at western Red Sea Coasts in Thiama Valleys with more humid climate in one region of Saudi Arabia then you need to prepare your backpack for an adventurous trip to Aseer Region.

However, Aseer region is famous for its mountains on top of which lie beautiful plains, valleys, gardens, waterfalls, springs and palaces with mount Soudha is the highest peak reaching 3015 meters; Bisha is a rich oasis in the north of Aseer that has always been known for its fertile land. It joins between the valleys coming from high mountains, called Palm Bisha, Green Bisha and Black Bisha, where another 45 sub-valleys also meet.

Nevertheless, Soudha Mountain, Rijal Alma Heritage Village, Habala & Green Mountain are among the top tourist attractions in Aseer region; it offers a lot more to the visitors to discover within Abha and across the region.

Abha viewpoint is one of those places which gives a pleasant view of the Abha city.

Abha Viewpoint

I personally like Al-Moshebah Hill more than Soudha Mountain. There’s a very beautiful spring on the way to Al-Moshebah Hill.

Next to Al-Moshebah Hill is Al Sahab Park and is equally beautiful.

If you are coming back Abha from Rijal Alma then you can give another treat to yourself by enjoying hiking at steep cliffs of Aqaba Al Sama just before Al Soudha Cable Car Station.

Visitors usually just visit Al Habala viewpoint or cable car station; however, Al Habala also offers a lot to its visitors with amazing rock formations and fruits and vegetable farms.

There’s one more very beautiful and lush green village with astonishing landscape called Tamniah near Habala which has a lot of fruits and vegetable farms in it.

If you are traveling on Route 15 in Aseer region then how come you can forget Tanomah which is one of the big cities in Aseer region and famous for hiking and climbing spots. The landscapes from top of mountains are simply out of this world.

In between Tanomah and Abha, Billasmar is also not a spot to be missed. From Steep cliffs to the forestry mountains, lakes and streams, Billasmar has everything to surprise its guests.

If it’s raining in Tanomah then nothing would be better than Dahna fall. Unfortunately, the fall was dried when I visited but I am sure it gives scenic views to the visitors when it rains.

Al Namas is also a must stop place on route 15. I call Al Namas Green Land of Saudi Arabia due to its lush green valleys and dense forestry mountains with steep cliff among which Jabal Mareer and Sha’af Al Waleed are no miss places Tandaha dam in Khamis Mushait mesmerizes the visitors with its clear water, storage capacity and outstanding landscapes.
